A slotted screw is a commonly used connecting component with a linear shape, usually processed by a cold heading machine or lathe. The production of flat head screws usually adopts two methods: cold heading production and turning production.

When manufacturers of slotted screws produce slotted screws through cold heading, they initially use an extrusion machine to press a section of steel at the head into a long rod with different diameters at both ends, forming a slotted screw blank, which is then formed on the cold heading machine. When processing on a cold heading machine, the steel billet undergoes multiple cold extrusion forming and cutting processes, forming the threaded part of a flat screw.

When manufacturers of slotted screws turn and produce slotted screws, they first use a lathe to process the entire strip or billet (also known as the base material) of the slotted screw, and then perform thread turning on the lathe. When machining on a lathe, workers will use spiral cutting tools to machine the threaded part of a flat head screw.

In terms of appearance, the flat screws produced by cold heading will have uneven edges, while the flat grooves produced by turning will have a more beautiful appearance, but the price will also be more expensive.

Overall, cold heading production is suitable for producing large quantities of slotted screws, with the advantages of efficiency, speed, and one-time molding; Turning production is suitable for small batch or customized flat head screw production, and can flexibly adjust processing parameters according to needs to process high-precision thread shapes.
